From a Part-Timer to a Business Partner at KBC

Radka has come a long way. She joined KBC as a part-time officer in 2018 while studying at Masaryk University in Brno.

In this role, she gained great insight into the company and made friends for life. Then Radka left. She flew to the other side of the world.

“I went to Australia with an exchange student programme at my university. That boosted my English, and when I returned to Brno, I was lucky to go back to KBC and start working full-time,” she explains how she became a team leader.

“I went to Australia with an exchange student programme at my university. That boosted my English, and when I returned to Brno, I was lucky to go back to KBC and start working full-time,” she explains how she became a team leader.

Radka performed great as a team leader. But soon enough, she discovered that the role wasn’t the perfect match for her. “I didn’t fully enjoy my tasks and sometimes lacked motivation. After a while, I discussed it with my manager, and we searched for a solution. We finally decided, I could take on a different role. Once there was a vacancy in human resources (HR), I applied for it and changed my career direction,” she describes how she found herself in a recruiter role. Radka says it finally felt right and laughs that HR is meant for her: “I am a typical people person and never get bored of people.”

As a recruiter, she takes care of the talent acquisition from A to Z. “Advertising vacancies, screening job applicants, interviewing people is a big chunk of my job. With my fantastic team, we also visit a lot of job fairs and organise events for people,” she says. She adds that her job also includes doing the paperwork, and such a role fits people of various personalities. Helping others to find their career path for them is what matters the most.

Radka thinks her journey has been a tremendous learning experience and helps her nowadays, when navigating the career of others. Her first job at KBC brings happy memories, and she recommends all students to join KBC part-time: “These entry-level roles are easy to manage with studies. You can work ten to twenty hours a week, even from home, soak up what’s going on at KBC and choose your next career steps later on,” she explains.

While Radka found herself in HR, her journey doesn’t end up as a recruiter. Recently, she was promoted to a Business Partner in HR. That‘s a massive success, and she is looking forward to the next chapter. “This is a more senior and strategic role; a business partner connects HR and the business. I will be involved in developing our HR strategy and responsible for multiple domains,” she grins.
