Fun at Work? Necessary!

Today, Láďa is an experienced team leader and manages two teams made of 30 people altogether. “My main task is making sure my colleagues are happy and perform well. In insurance field, there is not much space for making mistakes,” he explains what he does.

But there’s more. For many years, he’s been leading KBC’s Fun Committee and organising exciting activities for his colleagues.

Fun at Work? Necessary!

Láďa has been at KBC for 10 years. He joined the company part-time while studying at university and remembers when there were only 100 employees. Now, around 1,400 people work at KBC in Brno.

The very first event he organised was KBC‘s Christmas party in 2013. “The event was just for 100 people, and we had a small budget. But it turned out to be a huge success,” he smiles when describing his beginnings in the Fun Committee. As KBC in Brno grew, more people joined the company, and events got bigger. Láďa says that leading the committee quickly turned from mostly fun to a more serious business: “The most of the committee’s yearly budget is for the New Year’s and Summer Party. Having done it for years, I’ve got to know the best venues in Brno, represented KBC in meetings, drafted contracts and overseen the paperwork.” As the leader of the Fun Committee he bears considerable responsibility and must plan ahead — once the annual New Year’s Party is over, Láďa is on the phone to book the venue for the following year.

The Fun Committee is made up of around ten members who also organise smaller leisure activities. “We organise a small get-together every month, be it a ping-pong match, a game of bowling, table football, a pub quiz or a ski trip abroad,“ he explains. Running the committee is voluntary; everyone does it on top of their work responsibilities. It’s free for anyone to join. What drives the members is that they have fun planning all the activities — and their colleagues have a good time and recharge their batteries as a result.

Láďa is a busy man. Apart from working as a team leader and running the Fun Committee, he hosts the KBC’s podcast. He started recording the podcast last year with his colleague intending to share inspiring stories of people at KBC. They have been interviewing people from different teams, learning about their careers and digging for tips. Láďa says that if you want to, you can carve your path at KBC. Just like him.
