The payments domain is undergoing rapid transformation driven by innovation, emerging payment rails and Europe’s increasing focus on digital sovereignty. Customers expect seamless, secure digital and e‑commerce payment experiences, while regulatory demands—especially around security, AML, KYC and fraud prevention—are becoming more complex. At the same time, financial institutions must boost operational efficiency without transferring costs to clients.
In this context, KBC is looking for an experienced Payments Business Architect / Senior Expert with deep financial industry knowledge and a strong vision of future market developments. In this role, you will challenge our existing payments organization and architecture and help shape a future‑proof design for the entire KBC Group.
You will be part of the Group Payments Expert Unit, contributing to the group’s vision, strategy and project portfolio, identifying synergies and driving convergence of payment processes across all entities.
The Challenge:
- Challenge KBC’s current payments organization, processes and architecture using best practices from the global market.
- Build and deepen expertise in new payment rails such as Stablecoin, Finality, Digital Euro, and explore the use of agentic AI in payments, including risk mitigation strategies.
- Drive automation of payment controls using both rule‑based and model‑based anomaly detection.
- Provide expert guidance on implementing controls and regulatory requirements across the KBC Group.
- Support strategic initiatives that help maintain KBC’s leading market position in payments.
- Work closely with international domain experts and influence senior stakeholders with clear, structured, and data‑driven recommendations.
Who We Are Looking For:
- Master’s degree.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in Payments within the financial sector.
- Strong business acumen and passion for Payments, innovation and market trends.
- Knowledge of DLT and agentic AI is a strong plus.
- Solid technological understanding with hands‑on experience as an end user.
- Deep knowledge of payment process risks, risk detection frameworks and preventive methods.
- Familiarity with Payments legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent communication skills—able to simplify complex topics for various audiences.
- Confident in influencing senior management and presenting ideas with clarity.
- High energy, excellent networking abilities and a collaborative mindset.
- Strong command of English.
