Zuzka has built her career at KBC through different roles, a leadership opportunity and a return from maternity leave. Today, flexibility helps her continue developing professionally while being there for her family.

Finding a way to make it work.

Zuzka joined KBC in 2012. Today, she works as a Functional Analyst for an application that processes capital markets transactions. During her years with the company, she has explored different career paths, accepted new challenges and discovered how professional growth can continue through different stages of life. “I have never stayed in the same position for more than two years,” she says.

Internal rotations were already encouraged when Zuzka joined KBC and the team had fewer than 200 employees. As the company grew, so did the range of available career opportunities. “There was always a discussion about where people could move next and how they could develop further." For Zuzka, these conversations opened the door to several different roles. One particularly important opportunity came when she was preparing to become a Team Leader.

At the same time, she already knew that she would soon be going on maternity leave. Instead of making assumptions about what she wanted, her manager discussed the situation with her openly. “She gave me the choice of whether I still wanted to move forward in my career and accept the Team Leader role, or remain in my current position.” It was an important message. Becoming a parent did not automatically put her professional development on hold. Zuzka could make the decision that felt right for her.

Zuzka originally expected to return to KBC after five years of maternity leave. In the end, she came back five months earlier than planned. Before returning, she met with her managers to discuss the available options and clarify expectations on both sides. She accepted an offer to become a Functional Analyst.“My experience during maternity leave taught me that I can switch from one task to another at any moment. That is something I now use a lot when working on projects.” The ability to adapt, reprioritise and manage several responsibilities at once became a valuable part of her professional experience.

Flexibility that makes everyday life easier.

For working parents, flexibility is not just a benefit on paper. It can determine whether everyday family life is manageable. Zuzka makes use of home office and flexible working hours. “Picking up my children from nursery school is not a problem. When they are ill, I can stay with them and work from home, so I do not have to take family care leave.” Her husband works at KBC as well, which makes the flexibility even more valuable for their family.

More than a workplace.

Over the years, KBC has become an important part of Zuzka’s professional and personal story. It has given her opportunities to try different roles, grow into new responsibilities and develop her potential. “What has KBC given me over the years? Friendships. A husband. And, in a way, it has also helped me discover and develop my potential.”

Your career does not have to stand still when your family grows.

Every parent’s situation is different. What many have in common is the need for a workplace where they can speak openly about their needs, explore realistic options and continue developing at a pace that works for them. Zuzka’s story shows that career growth and family life do not have to be competing priorities. With supportive conversations, internal opportunities and practical flexibility, they can grow alongside each other.
