The role's competence consists of 3 main anchors: Business Knowledge, Application/System knowledge and Quality assurance knowledge.
Application manager is responsible for the stability & quality of his/her applications. This will always include the following 3 activities: Detect possible bugs (potential future problems) by testing the application; Fix problems as fast as possible; Encourage colleagues to find solution for problems.
One Application Manager is not as the other as your responsibilities can differ from department to department. Application manager is not a developer.
