Radka: As a job candidate, you usually get familiar with KBC first. You find an open position and apply. If you‘re a good fit, we’ll give you a screening call to check your motivation and expectations. You then get an invitation for a job interview and if everything works out well, you get a job. That’s it when applying for a junior position.

Aleš: People applying for more advanced or senior positions are also usually tested on their hard skills. Analytical thinking, Excel or IT skills, for example.

You offer many different positions on your career site. How to find the right role?

Radka: If you’re unsure about the position or can’t easily imagine it, check our domains to understand the position better. All teams at KBC are divided into domains based on what they do. Insurance, security services, financial markets, and many others.

Aleš: You can always get in touch with recruiters and ask them before applying for the job. On their e-mail, LinkedIn or even Facebook.

Aleš: Your CV must reflect the position you’re applying for. Get specific about the tasks you did or enjoyed at your previous work, and also try to keep it short so we don’t have to scroll through seven pages.

Radka: A good CV shows us who you are. Don’t be afraid to include personal stuff, such as your hobbies — this helps us to see if you’re a fit for the team. If you’re a student with a lack of work experience, mention all your part-time jobs, volunteer work or participation in school clubs or societies.

And what about the cover letter? How to approach writing it? 

Aleš: Use your cover letter to connect with us. Demonstrate your motivation, visions, and where you see yourself heading in the future.  

Radka: The way you think about your cover letter also shows us who you are. It doesn’t have to be long, don’t write more than a page.  

Let’s imagine I’ve just applied for the job. What happens next? 

Aleš: Expect a screening call. We want to learn more about your motivation and expectations. We can explain the position to you in more detail and help you prepare for a job interview. 

Radka: I call this a beta version of a job interview — we won’t go into much depth but ask you similar questions. Let us know if you think the position might be for you, but you’re not 100% sure. We can always help you find the job that suits you more. If there’s a mutual agreement, we set up a date for a job interview. 

Is this screening call in English? 

Aleš: We’re an international company and our colleagues come from different countries. Expect to talk in English for at least a few minutes on the screening call — and in the job interview. Don’t worry about making mistakes or not having perfect grammar. It’s not as much about your level of English but rather about your willingness to talk in English. 

What to expect from a job interview? 

Aleš: A job interview usually takes an hour, it’s either online or in person. There’s always one recruiter, one job candidate, and often someone from the team. I’m always looking for enthusiastic people – those who talk about what they did or do with passion. Say what you enjoy to make us interested. 

Radka: I like honest candidates who aren’t afraid to admit mistakes. Don’t be scared to mention any "fuckups" and demonstrate how you learned from it. This we appreciate.

Aleš: My advice is to take five minutes for yourself before the interview. Sit down, take a deep breath and think about what you want to get out of it. What work do you want to do for the next couple of years? And if you ever get nervous during the interview, say it out loud — it’ll help you, and we’ll get it.

Aleš: If you’re not a good fit for the team you applied for, we don’t throw your CV away. We always try to find another position you might enjoy. 

Radka: In case you’re not a match for KBC, we’re happy to give feedback on what to improve or focus on. You can always apply for a job in the future.

Aleš: Aside from meeting your team, expect a lot of training and watching video tutorials at first. But don’t worry, you’ll get a buddy — an experienced person who helps you, shows you around, and you can always peek over their shoulder.
