Get to know TeamBlue:

Meet Svetoslav Dedev, Test Engineer at KBC Shared Service Center Varna

1. What path has led you to your current job as a Test engineer?

During the start of the pandemic, I started my journey with KBC as part of а different team in Shared Service Center Varna, when the HR department offered me the opportunity to take an interview for the Testing HUB since I had some experience in quality assurance in the past. Everything turned out great and I started as the first Tester and member of the Testing HUB domain in Varna.

One year later, thanks to the support of my mentor in the team and the various trainings I have passed to expand my knowledge, I have become a Test Engineer.

2. What is your role in Testing Hub?

As a Test Engineer, I am involved in the documentation analysis such as functional and business requirements, in designing and maintenance of test objectives, scenarios and cases. But I also execute tests and report defects, managing the whole defect management process from testing point of view.

In addition to those activities, I am also in direct communication with the project coordinator and I attend regular meetings.

3. Can you describe what your typical day looks like?

Due to the dynamic nature of  testing and quality assurance, it is difficult to describe the typical day of a test engineer - every day is different and brings new tasks and challenges, but indeed there are some tasks that we do on a daily basis. Firstly, in the beginning of the working day, I attend our project meeting where we discuss open points and plans for the day. After that here comes the time to check if any of my open defects have any movement - a fixed defect or if a colleague needs more information about the defect. If а defect has been resolved, I do the confirmation testing and change the status of the defect accordingly. After that I can focus on what we agreed on the morning meeting.

4. Tell us a little more about the projects you are working on at KBC

I work on a project for one of the European banks who is part of KBC Group. It is a large project separated in 2 phases, and I joined the mini team working on it right after the first phase was completed. The main goal of the project is to upgrade the core banking system and it covers a lot of different areas of knowledge. Test writing and test execution are the main focus, but our team also provides other expertise when needed.

5. Tell us more about your team

Being part of a team that was established during a pandemic doesn't sound promising at first, but this is definitely not our case. Even though most of us met and worked with each other in a virtual way - via laptop cameras, we have built a strong team spirit. Coping with  difficulties and sharing the lessons learned are big part of the team dynamics, but so are personal achievements. In one sentence - we are young team of motivated and competent people who strive to achieve more as a team.

6. What motivates you every day?

Motivation for me is the power to assist and support my colleagues. This is possible when I am always striving for continuous improvement when it comes to my knowledge and soft skills. This way, I can be as effective as possible and I can build  the know-how and then share with my team.

7. What do you like to do in your free time?

When I am not working, I usually play basketball, go outside with friends, watch movies or read books. There is one more hobby I discovered thanks to the pandemic and this is cooking - especially Asian and Italian cuisine.

8. What do you like about working at KBC?  What makes the company different?

The first thing that comes to my mind is that your opinion is heard, and it actually matters. When you are proactive and results-driven, all this diligence and dedication are being noted and valued. Therefore, in the aftermath a lot of opportunities for further career development are available to you and are supported by your direct manager.
