KBC Global Services is the engine behind KBC Group – a leading bank-insurance group with over 41,000 talented employees serving more than 12 million clients across Europe.
Since 2021, we have been supporting the digital transformation of KBC Group providing software development, QA, AI and other IT solutions working on a wide range of projects combining classical IT with digital banking.
As a UI Technical Designer within the design team of the Digital Customer Experience (DCX) department, you are the vital link between our design vision and our technical implementation.
You’ll work closely with UI designers, front-end developers and tech leads to ensure our digital products not only look great but are also technically sound and scalable.
You’ll be the go-to person for technical questions about UI components, to challenge design proposals for feasibility, and to help maintain a robust design system as well as a style guide that supports our digital ecosystem.
You’ll be designing for more than 2,2 million users, and — according to Sia Partners — the best banking app in Belgium (2021-2022-2023-2024) and worldwide (2024).
Job content:
- Develop, maintain and actively think about the evolution of our design system (KBC Design Language) and our digital style guide in collaboration with our Belgian counterparts.
- Ensure that design proposals align with technical constraints and design system standards.
- Distill new UI components from designs, describe their specifications and behaviour in our digital styleguide, and test them thoroughly after they’ve been implemented.
- Act as a bridge between design and development, facilitating smooth communication and collaboration.
- Participate in weekly syncs with front-end tech leads to discuss component needs and improvements across technologies (native, web, etc.).
- Continuously improve our design and development processes, tools, and documentation.
Your assets:
- You hold at least a bachelor's degree or have equivalent experience in one of the fields: Digital Design, Multimedia, Product Design, Software/Web Development, etc., but always with a clear focus on user interface design and an affinity for the technical aspects.
- Knowledge of and experience with operating system-specific design guidelines is a must, as well as the creativity to find a generic intermediate language, since we have one uniform “KBC Design Language” used for both native and web development.
- You have a solid understanding of HTML, CSS and Javascript — you can code and speak the language of developers.
- You can find your way around the syntax of other programming languages like Swift and Kotlin, or frameworks like Angular.
- You have basic knowledge of Git (version control system), Jenkins, and release management.
- You are proficient in Figma with a focus on managing a design system in Figma. You’re also familiar with the Adobe Creative Suite tools (XD, Illustrator, Photoshop, …).
- You have strong problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset.
- You have knowledge of accessibility standards, including contrast requirements, screen reader compatibility and keyboard navigation.
- You have a keen eye for UI design and a passion for creating intuitive user experiences.
- You have excellent communication skills — you can translate design needs into technical requirements and vice versa.
- You are fluent in English.
- If you tick any of the boxes below, that’s a great advantage:
o Next to basic technical knowledge, you also have some knowledge of NodeJS.
o You are a real Figma guru, experienced in mastering an advanced design system via Figma.
